PORTO 2001

The exhibition ‘Pontes de Partida’ (Bridges of Departure), part of the Porto 2001 – European Capital of Culture programme, invites reflection on the role of bridges — both real and symbolic — in the construction of urban, cultural and social identities. Curated by José Madureira Pinto and Maria Benedita Portugal, the exhibition takes the city of Porto, a place of crossings and encounters, as its starting point to explore the bridge as a metaphor for connection, dialogue and transformation.
